Iodosorb* powder is a sterile formulation of acute cadexomer iodine. When applied to the wound, it cleans it by absorbing fluids, removing pus and debris and forming a moist gel over the wound surface. As Iodosorb swells in situ the active iodine is released, killing resident micro-organisms in the wound site and changing colour.

Features

Iodosorb powder contains 100% cadexomer iodine powder.

Benefits

Helps Promote Wound Healing

  •          Pus and debris are removed effectively
  •          Iodosorb helps to promote a clean wound-healing environment
  •          A change in colour indicates when Iodosorb should be changed
  •          Gel formed over the wound can help to facilitate moist healing

Fewer Dressing Changes

Cadexomer iodine powder can absorb up to 6 times its weight in the fluid to ensure the effective presentation of the active iodine to the wound environment

Patient comfort

Iodosorb powder assists in the healing and treatment of chronic ulcers by reducing micro-biological load and maintaining a moist environment

Iodosorb is non-adhesive which can reduce trauma when the product is removed and encourage patient compliance

Contraindications / Precautions

Iodosorb powder contains 0.9% Iodine and must not be used in patients with known or suspected iodine sensitivity.

Warnings and Precautions

Iodine is absorbed systemically especially when large wounds are treated. This should be taken into consideration in patients undertaking thyroid function tests.

Pregnancy

Iodine can cross the placental barrier and is secreted into the milk. Do not use Iodosorb in pregnant or lactating women.

Undesirable Effects

It has been reported that some patients experience a transient smarting sensation within the first hour after treatment. This can be reduced if the wound surface is left moist before applying Iodosorb Powder. Mild erythema, without sensitisation, has been observed occasionally. It has been observed occasionally that an adherent crust can form when Iodosorb powder is not changed with sufficient frequency.
